What Happens When Windows is Reloaded?

Here’s a few tips to make it easier for you to get back up and running smoothly when your operating system has been reinstalled:

Boot up your computer and test your Internet connection. Most high speed connections (i.e. Cable/DSL) do not require software to be loaded. You may need to unplug your modem and/or router one time to reconnect.

Next, install your Virus and Spyware Protection Software, then download the most current virus updates. Repeat the update process until your virus program notifies you that it is completely up to date.

Now begin installing any devices attached to your computer such as a printer or scanner. Install each device, one at a time, using your original installation disks. Reboot after each device is installed to verify everything is working properly.

Begin installing any other programs such as Microsoft Office, one at a time, and test each one to be sure that it runs correctly. Only after the appropriate programs are reloaded will you be able to then access any backed up data.

Remember—Every system is different. These are basic guidelines that should help restore your system back to the way it was before you needed Windows re-loaded.

Be sure to keep an eye out for anything unusual when using your computer that may indicate a need for maintenance. Proper maintenance can help avoid the need for a complete reload in the future!
